Seeking Responses from School Board Candidates

In November, Detroiters will vote for a new, seven-member school board. As our schools have suffered massive transitions over the past decades, and are entering a new era of local control, this is a vital moment to ensure that forward-looking leadership is seated on the board. We will be making endorsements and would like candidates to answer a single question.

As a member of the Detroit School Board, it will be your job to review the performance of the superintendent. If you could create a dashboard with just five metrics or indicators to evaluate his or her performance, what are the five metrics you would use, and (briefly), why? (Some examples might be students reading at grade level, teacher satisfaction surveys, chronic absenteeism, student retention, etc.)
